Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Adds rich flavor and moisture.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Balances the richness of the butter.
  • 4 large eggs Provides structure and stability.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Enhances the flavor.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Creates a tender crumb.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Ensures the cake rises beautifully.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances sweetness.
  • 1 cup whole milk Makes the batter creamy.

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar Used for the filling.
  • optional Whipped cream A lighter filling alternative.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.

Mixing

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add this dry mixture to the butter and sugar mix, alternating with the whole milk, starting and ending with flour.
  • Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Filling and Stacking

  • For the filling, beat together butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until fluffy or use whipped cream if desired.
  • Slice the cooled cake horizontally to create two layers, fill with cream, and stack. Decorate as desired.

Notes

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for better blending. For a denser flavor, substitute part of all-purpose flour with cake flour. Let the cake layers cool fully before applying fillings to prevent sogginess.
